The Spokane Bike Swap is coming up on April 13. I’m taking the year off from displaying my products there though. You can still get a great deal on some wheels from me though. I’ve got some deep discounts on Shimano hubs, some random used hubs for as little as free and lots of rim profiles in stock to choose from. As always locals get free rim tape with new wheelsets and can take advantage of free truing and spoke replacement if ever needed.
I hand build wheels for all kinds of bikes with both aluminum and carbon rims. Most wheels are made to order within a few days. I ship finished wheels to riders everywhere. These wheels don’t have expensive but sometimes they are. Prices start as low as ~$400.
Here are a couple discounted wheelsets built up right now.
Elephant Bikes-This is a custom steel frame built with a shorter front center to fit my shorter torso. It’s got a 68 head tube with the 120mm Fox fork on it. With the 650 wheels it’s a lot of fun to ride. Like my cross bike below this has a fair share of American made parts, Sram components and time pedals. The wheels are Stan’s Crest rims with DT Swiss hubs. Of course I run them tubeless.
Gunnar Cycles-This is also a custom built frame. The seat tube measures 56cm, the top tube is 54mm. The fork is also a custom steel bend from Gunnar to fit the frame without any toe overlap. Being cross I have a couple wheelsets both with Velocity A23 rims. Since I have rim brakes I like the same rims so the brake setup stays the same. I have White Ind hubs on one set and Velocity hubs on the other. I keep one pair set up tubeless. The other I have tubes in to make changing to different tires easy.
Other Stuff-Lake shoes, Uvex helmet, Ospray pack, wool socks, thrift store clothing.
I have a number of road and mountain hubs that have been hanging around to long that I’d like to get rid of. Prices start at free for Deore QR and go to $75 for XT or 105, some are individual hubs others are sets, most are Shimano, and most are quick release. A couple sets are 15mm front and QR rear. I’m offering these hubs up as complete wheels and wheelsets so you’ll still be buying rims and spokes. Rim and spoke prices vary. Labor is $50/wheel or $80/pair. These hubs are while they last so contact me now for the best selection.
Shimano hubs aren’t flashy but they offer a lot of bang for the buck. Good seals, ball bearings, reliable hub engagement. I keep ~100 rims in stock to build with. This inventory means your wheels get built and shipped out in 1-2 days.
I am excited to welcome some new brands to my parts lineup. Besides my usual rim suppliers, I’m now also hand building my wheels with rims from HED and H Plus Son, Gigantex. If that’s not enough, I’ve also added Industry 9 and Bitex hubs to the current choices.
These are some great additions that give you even more options when selecting hand built wheels from Matthew Larsen Wheelbuilding. I hope to build wheels for you soon.
Gravel season is coming right up. I’ve got 700c disc rims that are great for your next ride as low as $60. I can build them with many different hubs and spokes depending on your budget.
These Velocity Blunt SL rims are wide enough for graveling, can be set up tubeless, lightweight and spin up fast. Pictured here with White Ind CLD hubs, black spokes and Shimano rotors. Cost as shown ~$950
